Alina Smith did not grow up listening to R&B. Still, the 19-year old singer/songwriter, raised on classical music, undeniably has soul. Voice alone – never mind her songwriting talent – puts the young artist in the select company of singers who touch people’s hearts. Blending genres like Soul, R&B, Pop and Funk, her songs are a deep reflection of her exciting, out-of-the-ordinary life. Alina was born and grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia. Living in a rough part of the city, she stayed inside her parents’ small apartment most days. Her mother, a school teacher and an amateur actress/opera singer, made sure that those days were spent well. At 2 Alina learned to read and write, at 3 she started singing, at 4 she was speaking English and painting and at 5 - writing poetry and short stories.
