This is where the Wakan, the Dakota Indian name for the "Rum" River, merges with the Mississippi River. The sacred Dakota name for the "Rum River" means Spirit or Great Spirit. The confluence of these rivers is a part of the Dakota Indians traditional/ancestral homeland and it is also a sacred Dakota site.
