The recent horrifying death of Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver Airport has provoked an international outcry over the indiscriminate police use of Tasers. Despite this public opposition Toronto Police chief Bill Blair has stated his intention to place these weapons in the hands of every cop in the city, thus adding more than three thousand of these devices to the existing arsenal. A public meeting was held at the University of Toronto on February 6 to start discussion of a possible way forward toward halting this purchase, with speeches from a panel of prominent local citizens followed by lively discussion from the audience.
