1965年三島由紀夫在自編自演的影片「憂國」裡，預演一次悲壯華麗的切腹場景。不過在1970年實際演出時，則變成完全脫序的慘狀。他被介錯三次才氣絕身亡，痛苦萬分，現場狼藉一片，與他個人對死亡之美的幻想相差甚遠。
