Canon L-1---Hi-8 video---At a Hayward Field track meet in 1993, Jim Howarth, a former Univ. of Oregon runner, won the 1500 meters in the good time of 3:41.43, which is the equivalent of a sub-four minute mile of 3:58.7. He held back and waited until the right moment, then surged strongly past the pack and won with an immpressive performance. Basically a modest guy, he seemed quite surprised and pleased by his effort. less
