CASCET organised an open air meeting on My 24th 2008 to show the almost universal opposition to the Co-op's plans to concrete over Leicestershire greenfield countryside. Hundreds of walkers, from a variety of villages around the proposed development, met at an historically important site in Great Stretton to hear various speakers, including local MP Edward Garnier. This is the Co-op's third attempt to build over the countryside. This time they appear to be trying to use the 'Eco' label, government coercion ( the Co-op have donated £500,000 to labour, lent them a £13million overdraft and sponsor Labour MPs ) and an almost complete lack of information to railroad through their plans. Their proposal fails basic criteria for Eco Towns - it is within 5 miles of a massive existing connurbation and it is not a brownfield site. Co-op, you are the weakest link - Goodbye! less
