Another type of B-Roll is the "cutaway". In this example we have the dreaded "talking head" (a guy just standing in front of the camera talking). In order to make this more interesting we "cut away" to our b-roll shots that are topical and relevant to what he is talking about. There is a maxim in TV and film production that says, "SHOW THEM, DON'T TELL THEM." Well in this case we are doing both. In order to pull this off it means you as a camera jockey must pay attention to what is being said in an interview stand up sequence and then insure that you acquire the footage that supports whatever was said. less
