NEW COURSE FOR SPRING 2009! POLS/PHIL 376. Rockford College. Taught by Dr. Jules Gleicher. The era of the American Founding (1776-1800) was the most philosophic period in our history. In it, we can see the conjunction between philosophic reflection and practical statesmanship. The study of this period can help us become more thoughtful, reflective citizens by understanding the political climate and learning to be responsible critics without being destructive of public tranquility. In this course we will examine texts by John Locke, Baron Montesquieu, Thomas Paine, the Declaration of Independence, and the writings of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. less
