這個外觀和芝麻球相似的小吃就叫做炸棗，是澎湖地區的古早味，在湖西傳統的老餅舖還吃得到這種口味。湖西人說，炸棗的外皮是用圓糯米揉製，口味有花生和紅豆兩種，吃起來酥酥香香非常可口。不過這樣的小吃在平常的日子吃不到，要等到結婚、喜慶等重大節日才有。因為澎湖人認為圓滾滾的炸棗象徵圓滿成功，吃炸棗會年年好，好運也會旺旺來！
