As well as being one of the driving forces in The Beatles, John Lennon also gained worldwide fame for his subsequent solo career, his political activism, and his promotion of world peace. It was with this in mind that he and his Yoko Ono planned the ‘Bed in for Peace’ in 1969. The first was held in Amsterdam in March, and the second was held in May in Montreal, in the Canadian province of Quebec. During their seven day stay, they were visited by the press and many well known figures of the day, but perhaps the most lasting legacy was the peace anthem Give Peace a Chance, recorded in the hotel room on June 1st. This video, set in the very room at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in which John and Yoko held the protest, takes a look the Bed in for Peace and how the events unfolded. less
