There have been cases in recent months where jewelers have sold pale blue topaz as aquamarine. In certain cases, the issue has been made even more confusing to the buyer when pale blue or sky blue topaz is being called 'aquamarine topaz'. Topaz is a gorgeous gemstone in it's own right. With a hardness of 8 on the Mohs scale, it is comparable in hardness to aquamarine. Very pale blue topaz could appear like aquamarine but, it is NOT aquamarine. If you are particular only about aquamarine color and do not care about the gem stone being an aquamarine, sky blue topaz could be a good choice. It is gorgeous, durable and very affordable. We have made great efforts to educate buyers regarding jewelry and gems, this might have made us a bit unpopular among the more fashionable and upscale jewelry brands and showrooms but, we stand by our policy. We believe that educating the buyer and allowing a well informed buying decision to be made is the best way to do business. less
