OK, this is an odd one & not much of a video -- it's really more about the sound. I love Coney Island in the wintertime, there's just something about being at a place that's so frenetic & gleeful all summer when it's all quiet & still & cold. One thing I always notice when I get off the train at the West 8th street Coney Island Aquarium stop is the sound you'll hear on this short clip - sort of a high, hollow tone that's become, to me, the signature sound of the place in the off season. I'm pretty sure that the source is the Astroland Tower, acting like the world's largest Aeolian harp. You can't hear it in the summertime over the rattles & shrieks & music & all, but it sings itself a solo all winter. The park has been shut down & the tower will probably go away. less
