It's been a year now since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region. Are things getting anywhere close to normal? Well, as a friend of mine, a life-long New Orleanian now settled in Orlando, said to me recently, "It will be years before New Orleans is ready to accept us back." The same can be said for Biloxi, Gulfport, and every other coastal city that was pummeled by Katrina's force. Few people were prepared for the aftermath of a Category Four Storm. So the big question is, now that we're entering into the next Hurricane Season, what have we learned from the debacle that was Katrina? Are we as citizens more prepared for that inevitable time when disaster strikes? Is our government more willing (or able) to aid Americans in need when the next storm comes bearing down upon our shores?
