Constructed in the 12th century by King George and his daughter Queen Tamara, Vardzia caves are one of the most spectacular sights in Georgia. In its heyday, there were over three thousand people living in these caves. Each dwelling place consists of three rooms and there are tunnels, stairways and hidden passages connecting the caves. This complex also boasts of a large church containing world class paintings and frescoes including "the Nativity", "the transfiguration" and "the last supper".
