Hong Kong is set to develop into a full biotech industrial base in between five and ten years, says Professor Walter Ho, Managing Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology. As the Institute celebrates 20 years in 2008 Hong Kong has developed the edge in helping to modernise Chinese medicine, says Professor Ho. The territory also provides an IPR protection platform for biotech and is a natural investment base for highly expensive research and development. The Institute has developed its own LifeArt herbal products in just a few years, says TCM Unit Manager, Alan Yeung. Meanwhile, a recent graduate from the Institute's incubator programme is Greenpack Products Limited and the company's Chief Scientific Officer Lee Fuk Ki expects its DNA project to be licensed soon. less
